Depending on the starting point, there are two main routes to Giglio. The choice is between the route via Switzerland and the variant through Austria. SwitzerlandIn Germany, follow the A5 motorway towards Basel. This will automatically lead you into Switzerland. In Switzerland (vehicle toll sticker required!), follow the signs towards Gotthard / Lucerne / Bern / Arisdorf. Following gotthard-strassentunnel.ch , you'll reach the Italian border and then continue on to Milan. Shortly before Milan, take the Tangentiale Ovest and continue towards Bologna / Genoa / Parma. Later, follow the signs towards Genoa / Livorno / Florence. Near Livorno, exit the motorway at Rosignano-Cecina and follow the SP161 towards Grosseto and Porto Santo Stefano. You're almost there! From Porto Santo Stefano, it's an hour by ferry and about 20 minutes by car on a winding mountain road on the island. AustriaFrom Germany, take the A8 towards Austria. In Austria (vehicle toll sticker required!), first head towards Salzburg. Change to the A12 towards Innsbruck and Brenner. Follow this road. Pass Verona and continue towards Bologna, Modena, and Rome. At Modena, change to the A1 and take the Firenze Certosa exit. At the roundabout, take the first exit and continue towards Siena, Poggibonsi, Colle di Val d'Elsa, and Grosseto. Follow the signs towards Grosseto and drive through the city. Near Albinia, turn right towards Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano. Follow the signs towards Porto Santo Stefano/Giglio ferry. In Porto Santo Stefano, take the ferry to Giglio. On the island, follow the only road towards Campese/Castello.

You can fly to Rome (Ciampino or Fiumicino airports) or Pisa. Many airlines offer affordable flights to both destinations. You're sure to find suitable connections on the relevant search and booking portals (e.g., Flug.de , Opodo.de , swoodoo.de ...). Just make sure your arrival time isn't too late, as waiting for luggage and the various transfers will take you approximately four hours to reach the ferry.Below we will briefly describe the further route after landing.From Rome Fiumicino , Rome Ciampino , or Pisa airports, you can continue your journey by bus and train. Bus tickets can be purchased directly from the driver, and sometimes also on the plane or at the departure airport. From Roma Centrale, take the regional train to Orbetello-Monte Argentario. From Rome FiumicinoFiumicino Airport has its own train station. Take the train from there to Roma Ostiense. From there, continue by train to Orbetello-Monte Argentario. Tickets can be purchased directly from the airport to Orbetello! From PisaFrom the airport, take a public bus or taxi to Pisa Centrale. Alternatively, you can take the train directly from Pisa Airport towards Pisa Centrale. From there, it's about a 2-hour train ride to Orbetello-Monte Argentario. The train journeyFrom Rome/Pisa to Orbetello-Monte Argentario. Train connections can be found here: Train connections . To the ferryFrom Orbetello-Monte Argentario, take the bus towards Porto Santo Stefano, which departs directly in front of the train station. You can buy bus tickets at the newsstand to the left of the station exit, not from the driver!Timetable: www.tiemmespa.it (Orbetello FS - Porto Santo Stefano)The bus stops near the port after about 20 minutes. Near the bus stop on the main road is the ticket office for both ferry companies ( www.maregiglio.it) . From there, take the ferry a short distance and then use the island bus service on Giglio itself – the Britzi buses, usually large coaches, are hard to miss. Depending on the time of year and day, the bus stop is either directly in the port or a little further out, on the left-hand side in a parking lot (follow the signs). Important NOTE!!!From Rome/Pisa, the train journey takes approximately two hours (travel time only). The destination station for all options is Orbetello - Monte Argentario, from where you can continue by bus ( www.tiemmespa.it - Orbetello FS - Porto Santo Stefano) to Porto Santo Stefano and catch the ferry. From Porto Stefano, the ferry takes you directly to Porto Giglio in one hour without any stops. Please always check the current ferry times, otherwise you could end up spending an unwanted night in Porto Stefano. The last crossing in the off-season is around 5:30 pm!
